Over the bridge we went to find Hoa Sua, an adorable yet unsuspecting hammock cafe nestled in the trees of Fujieda

The fabric lanterns were all dimly lit to compliment the hammocks hanging from nearly every beam in the little cottage. Small tables were strategically placed amongst the hammocks, where guests could enjoy their meals. There was a shopping corner, too. It was dedicated to Vietnamese knick knacks, baskets, bowls, and clothes if you so wished to take a piece of the restaurant home.

In the hammock cafe, the atmosphere was cozy, comfortable, and inviting. Upon entering, we had been greeted by the owner, whose energy emitted these same feelings. She was incredibly kind and absolutely gorgeous, wearing a stunning traditional Vietnamese dress and beautiful handcrafted wooden heels. Once the menu was explained, my friend and I ordered the lunch set: endless tea, flavorful eggrolls, fresh salad, and savory pho. She gave us wooden chopsticks and served us hot black tea with hints of vanilla. The cozy feeling was amplified as we sipped the tea—melting into our hammocks while taking in Hoa Sua’s artistic, colorful design in the interim. Pieces and artwork reflecting Vietnam were sprinkled throughout the restaurant’s interior, transporting us to a simpler place and time.

We were left to relax once we finished eating, not rushed in the slightest. The owner let us wander around the hammock cafe, poking into corners and exploring the different rooms. Each was unique and had small bits of character added—triangular ornaments in one, floral patterned curtains in another, and sprinkles of Vietnam added throughout. It was the perfect afternoon and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday: happily relaxing and exploring a special corner of the world in the Japanese countryside.
