I’ve been to a fair amount of coffee cafes and shops in cities such as Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Portland, Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo. I love the vibe of independent shops, especially when they purchase, roast, and grind the beans themselves. I wouldn’t consider myself a coffee expert by any means, but I do love a good cup of coffee and the relaxed atmosphere coffee shops offer.

Recently, I visited a small shop in Fujieda, Japan. It’s owned by an older couple who have been running this little place for about fifty years! The exterior is unassuming yet the interior design and quirky details mixed with the quality, taste, and service speaks volumes.

The stand-alone shop has a home-y vibe.
Coffee beans and the entrance to the small prep room.
An old-fashioned cash register, amongst other antique + vintage items.
Lots of seating inside.

These two coffee veterans source their coffee beans from various places: Brazil, Kilimanjaro, Guatemala, and Peru. The beans are roasted and ground in-house while cups of coffee are served hot or iced with small sides of milk and sugar. Antiques line the dark, wooden walls. The shop has a familiar, cozy feel. Definitely a one-of-a-kind, mom-and-pop shop to take your friends to or simply chill at in solitude.

Independent shops can be a hit or miss, but this place was absolutely perfect—a ten out of ten in my book! I fell in love the moment I entered and I think you will, too. Shop details can be found below.

Peace & happy travels,
